| Despite a growing number of researchers participating in clinical research studies, the cost and length of time to perform these studies is escalating and investigator reimbursement is going to continue to decline unless an effective solution is developed. According to a white paper published in June 2002 by IBM Global Industries, a paradigm shift in clinical trial research is long overdue. The clinical trial research process needs to become more efficient and more effective; but how? In that white paper – a three tiered solution was proposed: 1) the process of identifying potentially interested patients who are appropriate for a given study needs to by automated; 2) more researchers and more research subjects are needed; 3) a successful partnership between clinical research companies and investigators is needed that ultimately reduces the site’s burden in clinical research tasks such as patient recruitment, contracts, and regulatory affairs. At Exodon, we agree with the authors of this white paper, and the clinical research industry as a whole that change is needed. We have built into our system validating diagnostic measures. These scales were derived from the most widely used standardized measures in the neuropsychopharmacology literature. Once patients’ diagnoses have been validated and they have consented to participate in upcoming research, their data are de-identified and inputted into Exodon’s diagnostic repository where CROs, Pharmaceutical and other study sponsors worldwide, come to complete their studies in a more sane and pragmatic manner.
